FR. ITSSSMPP relate l’histoire de l’amitié, de grossesses et du surf. Mayra Aguilar, Jenny Bennett, Grace Gooch, Ashley Lloyd et Katie Loggins font toutes partie d’un groupe de surfeuses qui vivent tout près de Pleasure Point, un spot international de Santa Cruz, en Californie. Mayra Aguilar était le personnage principal du film primé « La Maestra » d’Elizabeth Pepin Silva et de Paul Ferraris , tandis qu’Ashley Lloyd est un ancienne surfeuse pro désormais shaper et chanteuse. Jenny, Grace, et Katie sont également des surfeuses accomplies.
Grâce à leur amour du surf et de l’océan, ces cinq femmes sont devenues amis. Tombant enceintes quasiment en meme temps, il est complètement naturel qu’elles se tournent l’une vers l’autre pour s’organiser dans leur passion. Préférant ignorer les gens qui leur disent d’arrêter de surfer du fait de leur grossesse, elles préfèrent alors écouter leurs propres envies et continuer de faire ce qui les fait vibrer, avec bien évidemment quelques précautions supplémentaires… Dans ce film, ce groupe de surfeuses expliquent les défis auxquels elles ont du faire face comme la problématique des combinaisons pas forcément adaptées à un ventre si rond ! Mais des ajustements dérisoires face à leur joie d’être au milieu de l’océan en compagnie de ces petits êtres à venir.
Une fois leurs bébés nés, elles doivent de nouveaux se confronter à des complications liées aux modifications de leur corps, mais aussi gérer ces petites choses dans une organisation globale. Le budget nounou étant très élevé, elles restent encore une fois solidaire en créant le « Surf Mamas Group ». Le principe est simple, certaines vont à l’eau pendant que les autres gardent les enfants, puis l’inverse ! INTRODUCING THE SUPER STOCKED SURF MAMAS OF PLEASURE POINT met en avant la force d’une communauté, et comment l’amitié permet parfois tout simplement d’accomplir ses objectifs en tant surfeuse, et mère.
EN. Introducing the Super Stoked Surf Mamas (ITSSSMPP) is a story about friendship, pregnancy and surfing. Mayra Aguilar, Jenny Bennett, Grace Gooch, Ashley Lloyd and Katie Loggins are a group of surfers who live near Pleasure Point, a world-class surf spot in Santa Cruz, California. Mayra Aguilar was the subject of Elizabeth Pepin Silva and Paul Ferraris’s 2015 award winning film La Maestra, while Ashley Lloyd is a former professional surf who is now a surfboard shaper and singer in a band. Jenny, Grace and Katie are also avid and accomplished surfers.
Through surfing and a love for the ocean, the five women become friends. So when they all become pregnant around the same time, it is natural that the women turn to each other for support and encouragement. Ignoring people who tell them to stop surfing while pregnant, the women decide instead listen to their own bodies and continue doing what they love — just with some extra precautions and modifications. The women in the film discuss the challenges they face as their bellies grow bigger and their wetsuits no longer fit, but also the joy of being in the water with their unborn child inside them experiencing the ocean together as one.
Once their babies are born, the women face new challenges in dealing with their changed bodies and the responsibilities of caring for a needy little one. Finances won’t allow any of the women to pay for child care, so instead they once again turn to each other, creating a surf mama group so that half the mamas go surf, while the others watch the kids – and then they switch off. The film demonstrates the power of coming together as a community and the the support and friendship women can give to each other to accomplish their goals – to be mothers, or anything else in their lives.
