Prod. Marine SERVAIS, Anouk SIMONARD

« Vagues Sans Terres » tells the story of Morocco’s rapidly changing Atlantic coastline. This film is about the ocean, those who live by it, those who dream of it, and those who grow up by it. By following surfers, shapers and local figures, the film reveals the hidden side of Morocco’s picture-postcard scenery. Behind the promises of a thriving tourism industry lies a coastline in distress. Amidst frustration, nostalgia and hope, the film acts as a mirror: it reflects our collective responsibility towards a place that is as precious as it is vulnerable.

For what is a land without waves, and a wave without land?

Cycling 8,000 km along the Atlantic coast in search of surf wasn’t part of our original plans. But at a time when world events seemed a little overwhelming and discouraging, it struck us as an invigorating way to live, to move with purpose and to embrace everything around us as we travelled through France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, the Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal and The Gambia.

Armed with a camera and a microphone each, we set out to capture what moved us: the wisdom of other cultures and customs, traditional music, and life in the desert and on distant shores. What we discovered was far more inspiring than anything we could ever have imagined.
