OF WAVES & WORTH

Real. Sephia WOHLRABE
Prod. Sephia WOHLRABE
« Of Waves and Worth » is a short film that shines a light on the representation of women within Cornwall’s surfing community. Particularly in colder waters, female surfers have often been overlooked by surfing culture and the media, having to overcome numerous obstacles simply to be seen and to continue doing what they love.
The film follows Bella Rose Bunce, a local surf photographer and the first female editor-in-chief of Wavelength Surf Magazine, to hear first-hand how these challenges have shaped her journey and how she has become an inspiration to future generations of female surfers.
« Of Waves and Worth » is a celebration of those who are carving out a place for themselves and a reminder that change is already underway.

STOKEMAN
Saturday, 7:05 p.m. / 8’42 USA, Spain
Real. Jonas HILL
Prod. Jonas HILL
« Stokeman » is a celebration of one man’s sincere approach to surfing. Simone Mongera is a surfer from northern Italy who, in this film, reflects on his relationship with surfing — from his initial mindset of comparison and competition, to an ever-evolving relationship centred on expression and freedom. Simone links his experiences in the water to those on land through art, creativity and connections with others. This film invites us to consider how a deeper connection with ourselves can lead to a deeper connection with nature, or vice versa. It invites us to be fully present with the gifts of nature, as well as the gifts of our own creativity, allowing the relationship between the two to carry us towards a state of joy, wonder, stoke and, ultimately, love.

OCEAN TRANQUILITY
Saturday, 7:30 p.m. / 5’06 Sweden
Real. Daniel HÄGGLUND
Prod. Daniel HÄGGLUND
A brief glimpse into the magical community of Stadtlandet, in Norway. I’ve always been impressed by their sense of community and their laid-back attitude. And by the fact that they live in a wilder place than most people — with no fast food, no shopping centres and no quick entertainment just round the corner. It’s raw and beautiful. There’s nature, and that’s it. But what nature – some of the most beautiful you’ll ever see.
This film is the second in a series of two. I shot one digitally and one on Super 8. Here’s the Super 8 version. Filmed over the same four days, in the same place. Simply to explore the difference in feel between these two types of film and just how different the results are.
